Brickfield Training Academy contains self-paced courses. You will need between 3-5 hours to complete each. We strongly recommend following the proposed structure of topics, contents and activities. In order to complete the course, you need to complete all the resources and activities of the course. 

The only graded activity is the final quiz and you need at least 8/10 to pass it.

1. Accessibility Foundations

Topics covered in this module:

  1. Accessibility main concepts.
  2. About disability and assistive technologies.
  3. Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  4. Compliance.
  5. Accessibility in an LMS.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand concepts like accessibility; usability; assistive devices.
  • Understand permanent/temporary/situational disabilities; types of disabilities and what they imply.
  • Understand the needs different users may have through stories/cases.
  • Know the main assistive technologies used nowadays.
  • Understand the basic principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and how they apply when designing an accessible course.
  • Understand basic accessibility issues in an LMS.
  • Understand basic concepts about compliance and accessibility testing.

2. Web Accessibility

  2. Structure and Layout
  3. Working with Text
  4. Working with Links
  5. Working with Tables
  6. Working with Images
  7. Working with Media

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand the importance of structure and layout in web accessibility.
  • Apply heading styles properly and a goo content structure.
  • Use correct elements to organize text such as lists, headings
  • Create links with a clear purpose.
  • Create simple tables with captions and headers.
  • Understand the importance of colour in text and images.
  • Understand the importance of images and how to make them accessible.
  • Understand how to create an accessible audio or video. 

3. Media Accessibility

Topics covered in this module:

  1. What is Media Accessibility?
  2. Working with Images.
  3. Working with Media: Audio and Video.

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand why media accessibility is important.
  • Create alt text in different types of images.
  • Understand the concept of caption, subtitle, transcript.
  • Recognize the characteristics that a video should have in order to be accessible.
  • Create captions for a video and an audio file and publish the media with its captions.

4. Document Accessibility

  1. What is Document Accessibility?
  2. Creating Accessible Documents with a Word Processor
  3. Creating Accessible Presentations
  4. Creating Accessible PDFs

At the end of this module, you should be able to:

  • Understand why accessible documents are important.
  • Decide whether to use a text document, a pdf or a web resource in Moodle.
  • Create accessible documents with a word processor.
  • Create accessible presentations.
  • Create basic pdf files exported from other programs.
  • Fix basic issues of PDFs documents with online tools.
